Coral Bleaching Threatens Coastal-Restoration

Oceans Alive Kenya continues caring for coral despite challenges

The  current global coral bleaching event threatens the hard-won restoration of coral reefs at Kuruwitu, but there is still more coral being restores than has existed in recent years.

Our project partner Oceans Alive Kenya has been fighting bleaching and overexploitation of coral reefs in Kenya since 2019, planting over 15,000 new coral to date. Their coral nursery contains 35 tables with the capacity to produce around 12,000 juvenile corals.
