Forest Carbon

Planting Trees in Timor-Leste

Trees are a nature-based solution to carbon removal. By sequestering carbon dioxide using photosynthesis, a single tree can capture up to a ton of CO2 in its lifetime.

Working with over 1,000 small holder farmers, FCOTI helps those who work the land in Timor-Leste to plant trees – sequestering carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The new trees mitigate climate change, reduce soil degradation while boosting biodiversity and improving local livelihoods.

This Plan Vivo project has come a long way since 2011, from planting over 250,000 trees, and steadily expanding – reaching more people and exploring more land. By placing reforestation hand in hand with socio-development, the project works to reconcile the relationship between people and our impact on the planet.
